What to expect at at your first visit to Norwich Spinal Health

What to expect on your first visit to Norwich Spinal Health

Every patient is different, and will need different types of care and number of appointments

However, here we outline what you can expect, right from your first appointment onwards:

Your First Visit

At your first visit, we will do everything we can to make you feel welcome and at home. We want you to be able to focus on getting better, and this is more likely to happen when you feel you’re in an environment where you can relax.

When you come in, you will be greeted by one of our support team who will look after you during your visit. We’ll ask you to relax in reception, with a drink if you’d like one, and then complete some simple paperwork before you see your Practitioner.

You first consultation is to listen and then discuss with you your past medical history, your current level of health and what your health goals are. We will then conduct a thorough physical exam, including chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological tests. We will also assess your posture, weight-bearing and ranges of motion. These tests give us important information about the function of your spine and nervous system. Women are supplied with gowns for comfort and privacy. Using state of the art equipment, we are able, where indicated, to carry out a computerised spinal scan that assesses your nervous system and muscles. If we need to take x-rays, which are only taken when clinically necessary, we will discuss this with you before going ahead.

When we have completed your exam, noted our findings and answered any questions you may have, we will discuss your options for care with you and ask you if you’d like to proceed. If so, we will arrange your next visit.

“I find Norwich Spinal Health a positive, friendly, welcoming, supportive, relaxing, empowering, reassuring and very professional place to come. I would recommend Norwich Spinal Health to others for all those reasons. They have helped me back to health and beyond.”

– Bridget R.

Your Second Visit

At your second visit, your chiropractor will have correlated your health history, exam findings, including scans and x-rays, if taken. We’ll explain what we have found, our diagnosis and how we may be able to help you. You’ll receive a written copy of your Report and a copy of any scans that were done.

Together, we’ll discuss our findings in detail along with a proposed schedule of care, called your care plan. We’ll explain your problem to you, what needs to be done to correct it, how long it will take and the costs involved. If you’re happy to go ahead, we can make a start.

It is during your second visit that you will receive your first adjustment, the details of which will be explained in detail at the time.

Progress Evaluation

At an appropriate point in your care plan, we will monitor your recovery with a Progress exam. This visit gives us an opportunity to take stock of your progress to date. More time will be allotted to this visit, so we can repeat a number of the original tests carried out at your first visit and compare the findings. We’ll also ask for your feedback on how you feel you’re doing and answer any questions you may have at this time. This evaluation helps us to assess how well we’re helping you to achieve your health goals and may flag up particular areas to work on.

Depending on your progress and your needs, your plan may be amended to get the best results. We will offer you our best recommendations and advice and give you options for continuing your care, depending on your health goals.

Regular Visits within your Treatment Plan

Future visits will be shorter, about 5 to 10 minutes for spinal adjustments; a bit longer for massage therapy sessions.

Like a regular workout at the gym, each visit builds on the ones before. Your individual care plan will require a certain number of adjustments within a certain period of time. This is required to produce spinal and postural correction and is designed to get results for you. Missed visits can interfere with the momentum necessary to make the needed changes and, therefore, will affect your progress overall. This is why we make your schedule in advance, so you can plan your diary ahead and make it easy to fit your visits into your busy life.
