Vitamin K

Naz Mitchell, one of the Back 2 Balance front desk assistants describes her experience, and consequently her thoughts around Vitamin K.

3 years ago whilst eating my breakfast wrap with soft fillings like avocado and tomato I broke one of my teeth. I managed to see my dentist as an emergency patient that lunchtime only to be told I need to see a specialist dentist due the way I have broken. It turned out to be a very expensive transaction.

I like a bit of research so I started reading about natural ways to strengthen your teeth and article after articles praised vitamin K2 for the way it can take calcium to areas that need it like teeth and bones and help decalcifying lungs, muscles and other soft tissues where it causes calcification. I also have a very high calcium diet which I realised was not helping my joints and flexibility without some K2 in my diet.

“Vitamin K is a group of vitamins that the body needs for blood clotting, helping wounds to heal. It is also been found to help keep bones healthy.” Taken from the NHS website.

The Japanese have eat Nattô everyday for breakfast. Nattō is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans that have been fermented with Bacillus subtilis var, and rich in vitamin K2 which helps them with flexible soft tissues, strong teeth and bones. Vitamin K can also be found in dark green leafy vegetables.

My interest in this was immediate, after the large bill from the dentist but the icing on the cake was that a bi product of vitamin k2 is a younger and stronger skin and  as I have worked as an aesthetician for 26yrs, I shard this with many clients and friends.

My message is invest in this lovely overlooked vitamin, a treat for your body. Vitamin K2 works best if taken with vitamin D3.
