Rebecca Nicholas, clinic director and principle Chiropractor, at Back 2 Balance, Hove, gives her tops tips for surviving Christmas in a 12 day countdown – Carrying the Christmas Tree.
Carrying The Christmas Tree
As an adult that doesn’t have any children (yet!), I can’t say this one has ever affected me and my back as I have an artificial tree that we get down from the loft (yes, yes, I’m waiting for all your banter folks!). However, over the many years of practice I have had people injure their lower backs whilst carrying the Christmas tree.
- Lifting, transporting, and getting the tree home.
- Trying to place the tree in it’s stand.
- Attempting to dispose of the tree and get it out of the house.
Why not share this job with someone else as they are cumbersome and heavy, and you can then reciprocate with your friend or neighbour. Alternatively, why not get it delivered to your house!
If you are going to do the physical bending and lifting, then focus on your posture. Keep your back as straight as you can, not rounded, bend your knees. You then lift with your legs rather than you back.
Do what chiropractors do and think ahead…… alternatively book your chiropractic adjustment in advance as it’s a common injury 😉
Speaking of posture and form have a read of a blog Megan our Osteopath has written – ‘Form when in the gym – Why is form so important?’
